Lunch Bag Cards

It has been very busy around here and I am ready for Spring Break!!  I recently posted some fun projects on the Sparkle N Sprinkle blog but just didn’t get a chance to share them on my own blog.  I will make up for that today…pull up a chair while I share!!

Right after Valentine’s Day I had a very special weekend at my favorite scrapbook store, Scrapbook Creations.  If you follow my blog you have heard me talk about this great store which also has a Cottage and a Bungalow that you can rent and stay at so you can just play all weekend.  Well, I won a free weekend at the Bungalow and so my best buds and I spent the weekend there.

Since there was no school that Monday, they threw in an extra day and we had such a great time.

I didn’t have time to make anything ahead of time but found these cute little glasses and filled them with yummy chocolates for everyone.  We created, shopped, ate, shopped some more, ate some more, played games, shopped a little more (broke), and even slept a little.  We even had a mini snowstorm for a few hours.

Now for the projects I mentioned.  I wanted to make the store owner a special thank you and remembered a fun card I made a long time ago from a paper lunch bag.

You can create great little places to tuck things in and I had the girls each make a tag to tuck in.

Since I gave that card away, I decided to create a second version for Sparkle N Sprinkle this last week.  I made a few changes and created my own little tag.  My base is a white bag, folded and cut, and I used one of the floral images from Framed Florals set, colored with alcohol markers, for my card/bag “front”.  I added the Leafy Floral Background to the tucked side panel.

I stamped the inside with another floral image from the Floral - Daisy Rectangle set and Nature's Butterfly.  I used the Kindness Appreciated sentiment on the right, cut out with a Spellbinders’ Label Ten die.

I used a slightly larger Label Ten die and the Being My Friend sentiment for my tag.  I added a touch of Sunny Daze Glitter and a few cut out dimensional flowers as a finishing touch.

With the release of the new Happy Spring set and the Bunnies & Bows set, I was inspired to create an Easter themed bag card.  This time I used the bottom of the bag on the inside of the card.

I added a sparkly strip across the decorative cardstock on the front, using the Glitter Masking technique in SNS’ Tips and Techniques section and Cloud Nine, Luau Green, and Orchid Rose Velvet Glitters.  The sweet bunny is stamped on Sparkling Sands Sparkle N Soft, shaded and colored with alcohol markers, and cut out.

On the inside I used the Bees Buzzing sentiment and flowers from the Spring - Benjamin Bunny stamp set for the left side and created another decorative panel to cover the bag bottom folded and adhered with dimensionals on the right side.

I heat embossed the three little bunnies on velvet glitter, cut them out, and colored them with alcohol markers.  I added them, along with some wrapped chocolate nuggets, to oval tags from Spellbinders‘ Back to Basics Tags.

I used Spellbinders’ 2010 Heirloom Ornaments and orange polka dot cardstock from a Basic Grey "Fiction" 6 x 6 paper pad to create my “carrot” tag.  The greenery at the top of the “carrot” is die cut from sticker paper, using the leafy stems from Cheery Lynn Designs Japanese Garden Lace Oval and Luau Green Velvet Glitter.

You can find more details on these cards on the Sparkle N Sprinkle Blog.  I hope you try these as they are really fun to make.

Hugs,

E. Marie

Sparkle N Sprinkle “My Favorite Technique” Blog Hop

Welcome to the Sparkle N Sprinkle “My Favorite Technique” Blog Hop.  I am so excited about this hop because I LOVE techniques!!  I can hardly wait to see what my fellow designers have created.

If you came here from the Sparkle N Sprinkle Blog you are in the right spot to start this hop!!  If you are just visiting and would like to join the hop, you might want to start back at the SNS Blog to get all the details!!  The hop runs from Thursday, March 14 through Friday, March 15 and the winners will be announced on Saturday, March 16.

Speaking of winners, by completing the hop and leaving a comment for each designer, you will have the chance to win a prize.  The grand prize is a stamp set of your choice and there are also 3 hidden prizes on 3 different designers’ blogs.  The designers don’t even know who has these prizes – it might be me!!

Here is the hop line-up so you know where you are headed:

Marie Berquist (that’s me)

Now, get comfortable and let's get started.

As I said, I love different techniques and certainly couldn’t pick just one favorite so today I will share just two.

This first card uses the EP Cosmos Technique which can be found in the SNS Tips and Techniques.  It uses a variety of embossing powders, including a touch of Super Thick EP.  To avoid making too much of a mess, you might want to do your heating from beneath the card.  I started with a maroon piece of cardstock and added Spiced Cider, Copper, and Sparkle EPs, along with the Super Thick Clear.  It gives such a great look and texture.  I cut out a window with a Spellbinder label die and popped it up over my image from the Chianti set.

I used the window scrap to cut out a smaller die to back my sentiment, Fine Wine.  I found these great wine charms and used them to hang my sentiment tag.  You can find the full detail of this card in the gallery here.

My second card also uses embossing – with powders and with an embossing folder.  I used the new Passion embossing folder and some Antique Gold EP to create another lovely background, this time using the Faux Patina Technique.

I added a tag created with a Spellbinder label die and colored with a variety of the same distress inks I used on the background.  The floral image is from the new Spring Florals set and was heat embossed with Teddy Brown EP and colored with a Dove Blender and the same distress inks.  The sentiment comes from the same stamp set.

I colored my ribbon and lace to coordinate with the card and added some baby wipe flowers I made (see Flower Making in Tips and Techniques).  Check out the card details here.

I hope you enjoyed these cards and techniques.  Make sure you visit the Sparkle N Sprinkle Tips and Techniques section as it is full of great ideas for your cards.  Now it is time to head to the next stop at Dawn Bennett’s beautiful blog!!  Let’s head on over together to see what she has made using her favorite technique.  Don’t forget to leave a comment before you go so you have a chance for a prize.

Have a fun hop!!

E. Marie
